About Shaw Horsemanship

Ian Shaw is a qualified instructor, Horse Safety Australia and has attained qualifications from the SiS10 Sport , Fitness and Recreation Training Package in respect of Handling horses and Identifying hazards, assessing and controlling safety risks for horse handling and riding activities.

He has lifelong experience working with horses both training and riding them and has competed in both dressage and eventing. 

​

Ian works to upskill and educate those aspiring to have a connection and relationship with horses through appropriate communication and teaching methodologies:

Ian is a qualified educator with many years of experience. He has held senior positions in both the Department of Primary Industries and also the Victorian Department of Education developing curricula and hands-on programs.  He has also held lecturing positions in rural programs within tertiary institutions and is well experienced in working with both adults and children.

He developed a program for the Victorian Department of Education called 'Safe Horse Handling' in response to demand from students wanting to gain confidence in working with their horses. The course catered for those with little experience through to others involved in advanced equestrian disciplines such as eventing.

Ian is committed to the welfare of horses and supports horse rescue organisations by both training rescued horses and ponies and providing training support.

Laina, Ian's partner, is a qualified instructor, Horse Safety Australia and has also attained qualifications from the SiS10 Sport , Fitness and Recreation Training Package in respect of Handling horses and Identifying hazards, assessing and controlling safety risks for horse handling and riding activities.

​

Laina has had a lifelong interest in horses and now works with Ian both training and teaching.

​

Laina has held senior leadership positions in NFP organisations where she has undertaken coaching and mentoring roles. 

​

Both Ian and Laina are qualified in First Aid and have Working with Children certification.
